Ocean Mandala Coloring #9 - Free Coloring Page

Six butterflies with finely checkered wings alternate with six segmented-body dragonflies around a small central rosette made of rounded, overlapping petals. A ring of large heart-shaped petals, pointed like folded leaves, separates that center from the circle of insects. The outer edge is neither a clean circle nor a beaded border: it is shaped by the spread wings, curled antennae and thin scrollwork that fill the gaps, giving the whole an irregular, lively silhouette.

Line density shifts across the page: the wing patterns are packed with checks, stripes and dots that call for a fine-tipped pen, while the heart-shaped petals and background give large areas to fill quickly. This page suits an intermediate to advanced colorist who enjoys switching tools within one drawing; expect two to three hours to finish every wing detail.

Start with the wing patterns using a fine liner before moving to the broad petal and background areas with markers or pencils, which go faster. The antennae and the scrollwork along the outer edge stay the most delicate parts of this mandala coloring page. Print this printable mandala at A3 on paper of at least 200 gsm, so the fine wing lines hold up.
