Eight large pointed leaves, each ribbed with fine veins and dotted with small circles, spread into the outer crown of this mandala and give the whole design the look of an open flower. Moving inward, a band of small beaded scallops leads to a ring of triangular lotus petals, then a thin circle marked with short dashes. At the heart sits a rosette of rounded petals wrapped around a tiny sunburst, itself surrounded by straight rays radiating out to meet the rosette. Seven or eight concentric rings follow one another this way without a single empty gap, right out to an edge broken up by the leaf tips and scattered with small circles and dots.

The linework is fine and even throughout, with no large open areas to fill in: even the outer leaves are broken down into small cells, veins and dots, echoing the lotus petals and central rosette. This printable mandala suits colorists used to fine liners or sharp colored pencils rather than broad markers, which would blur the detail. Expect to spend one to two hours working through the whole sheet, especially if you pick out every small circle along the border and every vein inside the leaves.

Start with the central rays and the petal rosette, the simplest shapes to isolate, before tackling the leaf crown, where the fine veins call for a sharp pencil point rather than a thick marker that would swallow them. The small dots along the scalloped band and the outer edge work well as an accent color added last.
