Japanese Mandala #9 - Free Coloring Page

At the center stands a small tiered pagoda over stylised cloud swirls, ringed by fine sunburst lines and a few birds. A first band repeats that alternation of birds and clouds in eight sections. The next ring holds lotus flowers and round, peach-like clusters, also split into eight parts. A denser ring follows, alternating pleated fans with panels of coiling scales suggestive of dragons or koi. The outer border alternates cherry blossoms with knotted bamboo, divided by straight spokes from the center. A clean double circle, without beading or scalloping, closes the mandala.

The line stays fine throughout but grows denser outward: the center is open and airy, while the ring of fans and scales packs in tight hatching. Areas to fill are largest near the middle and shrink toward the edge, which makes this mandala coloring page better suited to an experienced colorist or a motivated teenager than a young child. Expect two to four sittings to finish it.

Start with the pagoda and central clouds using broad felt-tips or pencils, then save fine 0.3mm liners for the interlocking scales and fan pleats, the most delicate parts. For this printable mandala, use A4 paper at least 200gsm so fine ink doesn't bleed through.
