Summer Mandala #12 - Free Coloring Page

At the centre of this mandala, a small sun with flame-like points surrounds a tiny core, ringed by curling scroll shapes like breaking waves. Next comes a band of rounded, scale-like petals, then a row of rippling double arches. The widest ring spreads five-petaled flowers, shell-shaped fans, leaves and small berry clusters, before a border of triangular compartments filled with varied motifs, closed off by a plain circular line.

The linework stays thin and even, with no shading or solid fills. The triangular compartments at the edge and the shell fans in the floral ring are quite small, so this mandala coloring page rewards a steady hand more than it suits an absolute beginner, even though the central sun and the larger petals fill in easily. It suits teens and adults who enjoy fine detail, and takes a good hour of work, sometimes two.

Start at the central sun and work outward: the shell fans and the small compartments at the rim are the trickiest parts, best handled with a sharpened coloured pencil or a 0.3 mm fineliner rather than a broad marker. For this printable mandala, print on thick 200-250 gsm paper at A4 size, so ink doesn't bleed through the small cells.
